How to Play

Welcome to the ESPN's "Streak for the Cash" - a challenging game that puts your sports prediction talents to the ultimate test. The objective of the game is to accumulate the longest winning streak by selecting the winning team (or player) in advance of an ongoing variety of matchups. Are you good enough to win the ultimate prize - the grand prize of $1,000,000?

Picking winners seems simple enough, right? Well, ESPN has taken this concept to the next level. Sure you know baseball (or football) - but can you make the right call on matchups drawn from ten or more different sports? You will be challenged to predict the winners of matchups from the likes of the National Football League, Major League Baseball, PGA Golf, and a slew of soccer matches from around the world (to name a few).

Should a compelling matchup arise in tennis, boxing, NASCAR, horse racing, there's an excellent chance we will toss them into the mix just to keep it interesting! For instance, let's say that Sergio Garcia and Phil Mickelson are tied, heading into the final round of the British Open. You may need to make the call on who will emerge victorious (and keep your streak alive!).

Play the game

On your "Make Picks" page you're challenged to select the winner of a listed matchup between teams, individual competitors or a combination of both. Each matchup has a locktime in which your selection must be submitted by. YOU CAN ONLY SELECT ONE MATCHUP AT A TIME. Once the matchup has gone FINAL you will be able to select the winner of a matchup which hasn't started yet. All matchups will be entered in the system by midnight PT and no matchups will be added by the Game Administrator after this time.

Here are examples of "straight up" matchups between two teams:
  • NCAA FOOTBALL - Oregon Ducks at UCLA Bruins
  • NFL - Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs
  • SOCCER - Arsenal at AC Milan
  • NHL - Buffalo Sabres at Philadelphia Flyers

Here are examples of "prop" matchups between teams, players or a combination of both:
  • NFL - Tom Brady Pass Completions vs. New York Jets 1st Downs
  • MLB - Colorado Rockies Hits vs. Jake Peavy Strikeouts
  • GOLF - Brandt Snedeker Lower 1st Round vs. Ernie Els Lower 1st Round
  • NBA/MLB - Philadelphia 76ers points scored vs. Cole Hamels pitch count

For most matchups the side with the HIGHER score, time or total will be declared the winner, but in some the side with the LOWER will win. If you win a matchup your streak continues, if you lose it you're back to 0.

You are not required to play every day, but the more matchups you predict successfully, the longer the streak! In the event a matchup that you selected does not take place (for any reason), your streak will NOT end, rather the matchup will be listed as "Cancelled", "Postponed" or "OFF" and scored as as "PUSH".

The top seven (7) entrants who accumulate the longest winning streaks between 4/1/09 - 12/6/09 will be flown out to Bristol to participate in a "pick-off". Should a tie exist between entries at the end of the day on 12/6/09 the following tiebreakers will be used to determine who qualifies for the Pick Off:
    1. Total number of wins from 4/1/09 - 12/6/09.
    2. Higher winning percentage from 4/1/09 - 12/6/09.
All participants start at zero. Your streak is measured by the number of consecutive matchup you select the correct winner of. The decisions of the Game Administrator responsible for officiating the games shall be final and binding regarding the outcome and scoring of each game. Matchup results may be corrected at any time based upon decision by the Game Administrator.

Prizes

Think you can win? Here's what you're playing for (see Official Rules for full details):
  • GRAND PRIZE (1): $1,000,000 dollars to the entry who accumulates the longest streak during the Pick-Off.
  • QUALIFIER PRIZE (7): $10,000 dollars to each of the seven (7) qualifiers who participates in-person in the Pick-Off.
  • MONTHLY PRIZE (9): $2,500 per month to the entry with the most wins.
  • MILESTONE PRIZE (10,000): The first 10,000 entrants who reach a streak of thirteen (13) will receive 100 ESPN Winners Circle points. These points can be used to redeem a Streak T-Shirt (or other prizes).

How To Play

1. Predict the winner of ONE of the listed matchups.

2. Once the matchup is final you can select the winner of a matchup that hasn't started yet.

3. Build one of the seven (7) longest winning streaks by Dec. 6, 2009 and you could qualify for the $1M Pick-Off at ESPN HQ in Bristol, Conn.
